PMs staying in outbox

My PMs used to intermittently stay in outbox and not get delivered, now they always do. Any idea why?

Stay there until they are ready. Stupid system if you ask me.

They only stay there until they are read so you can see if someone read your PM. In the meantime they are also sent.

Mine are not in the sent items, but perhaps they have not been read. I replied to you Wouter.

As soon as ANY recipient opens it, the PM moves from “outbox” to “sent”.
Up to that point, you can delete or edit the message. After that, it is frozen forever.
