File:Sergio Moro Judas.jpg

Hi there, the image File:Sergio Moro Judas.jpg was removed by you due to COM:NETCOPYVIO. Do you have a link to the original, previously uploaded version of it? I suppose you did a research that proved that the user who uploaded it, User:Luizpuodzius, in 18 March 2016 did in bad faith, copying the image from some other source? Thanks. ArlindoPereira (talk) 18:51, 11 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Nevermind, just found the reasoning at the user discussion page. :) Thanks anyways ArlindoPereira (talk) 18:55, 11 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Who deleted my picture and why? It was being used to illustrate Moro's article. Please restore it. Luizpuodzius (talk) 05:29, 12 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Luizpuodzius: I deleted your file as it is a copyright violation. Please read COM:L, and do not upload such files again, or you will be blocked. Thanks, Yann (talk) 09:12, 12 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yann,
You deleted my photo claiming copyright violation and threatened to block me.
The photograph is my original work. I personally took it on Paulista Avenue. I have 20 other shots of the same Moro puppet from different angles to prove it, and if needed replace this one that you deleted.
You gave me zero evidence. Zero discussion. Just a threat.
Wikimedia's own policy says blocks are for preventing damage, not punishment. It also says threatening other editors is prohibited. One might be block for this reason. Either show me the proof that this image was stolen, or restore it. I expect better from an administrator, if you are one. Luizpuodzius (talk) 05:22, 18 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Luizpuodzius: Sorry, but your claim is not credible: small size, no EXIF data, copies on the Internet, etc. If this is your own work, please upload the original image with EXIF data. Thanks, Yann (talk) 08:54, 18 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

A Country Practice Stars

Hello, need help with uploading a file and also I appreciate your kindness and sincerity of you being here to help with the A Country Practice, with the Joyce Jacobs one I had to remove because it was not the actress Joyce Jacobs who played Esme Watson in A Country Practice. I have been searching and wondering if you can upload a picture of Frank Lloyd, the Australian Actor, played Neville McPhee in Home and Away (1928-1995), again unfortunately he has passed, so we should be able to do a fair image. Thank-You again for your assistance and help , I do truly appreciate it, Have a nice day, Kindest Regards Newcumer80 (talk) 06:47, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Newcumer80: Hi, Before uploading files copied from the Internet, you need to insure that they are under a free license or in the public domain. Please read COM:L. There are copyright rules specific for each country. For Australia, please see Commons:Australia. In brief, only pictures from before 1955 are in the public domain. You can ask more questions on COM:VPC. Yann (talk) 09:12, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
yes , i know is iss why i ask you to do uit because you know how things work and are more familiar and you are the master and a kind yo help, i have tried a long time, my friend Newcumer80 (talk) 09:40, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

could you please upload for me and the Frank Lloyd picture and Joyce Jacobs from A Country Practice, please, thankyou Newcumer80 (talk) 13:52, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Newcumer80: No. Please read what I said above. No picture from after 1955 can be uploaded without evidence of a free license from the copyright holder. Yann (talk) 14:00, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
no because hhe actors have passed they would be in the fair use protocol, as a replacement license picture is obviously not possible, wikcommons is a different system under no circumstances do they except copyright images that are not in the public domain , as you mentioned before 1955, unfortunately Joyce passed away in 2013 and Frank Lloyd (1928-1995), and Frank Lloyd in 1995, it it is easy to get confused with the name because there are several people named Frank Lloyd but it was the actor from Home and Away. kind regards Newcumer80 (talk) 14:29, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Newcumer80: Fair use is not accepted on Commons. Once again, please read COM:L. Thanks, Yann (talk) 16:13, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
no, but it is allowed in wikipedia Newcumer80 (talk) 18:33, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Newcumer80: Then please upload it on Wikipedia. Yann (talk) 18:43, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
i dont know how to do that, this is the reason why i asked you, lol Newcumer80 (talk) 19:22, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Newcumer80: Please go to en:Wikipedia:File upload wizard, and follow the instructions of "Upload a non-free file". Yann (talk) 19:30, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
i am only going off what you stated?, which was the picture does not have a license, it is expired because the picture was in the public domain because it ended in the country it wa published, so why can't you please upload a more suitable picture that you are happy with, i only ever asked you for help, the picture was to document her early stage career and was an important component. did you find what i stated waso r fair-use was for Frank Lloyd, i didn't state fair-use on the other one, i stated was in now the public domain because it was before 1955 Newcumer80 (talk) 11:17, 23 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Newcumer80: Even if it is in public domain, you have to add a license. You can request undeletion at COM:UDR. Yann (talk) 11:26, 23 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
i send you message, regards Newcumer80 (talk) 08:55, 24 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
i have fond out why the THELMA RUBY picture was excepted, even thoughth picture was a press release, and the photographer wa snot identified , they tol dme something about URAA law that was instituted in 1995, even if i use {{PD-UK-unknown}} tag Newcumer80 (talk) 13:01, 24 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Well can you please help my friend, and the Frank Lloyd picture as well, , if you can only use a licensed picture that is wikicommons, and under no circumstances will they except fair-use but wikipedia does however, under some circumstance if for example the person has passed, and a replacement photo, i is unavailable , like our Frank Lloyd, the only way if the picture is not in the public domain, is to contact the person directly and ask if they are willing to offer a picture, or one that is unlicensed which i dont have a problem with, but considering she Thelma is now nearly 101 years old, in no way what so ever is it respectful or appropriate to contact an elderly lady.that is a certain boundary to set, so it is a matte rof finding one that is more suitable

Images deleted

My images on Indian monsoon, with infographics in hindi were deleted by user:The Squirrel Conspiracy terming them as personal images (F10). These images included- Distribution of rainfall, monsoon, climate factors, activities for children. Other images on Jain cosmology were also deleted without any notice or explanation. Calling them personal image is false & rude. They were meant to beautify hindi wikipedia pages. These weren't random images, they were created with care.-Ahinsa jain (talk) 18:08, 17 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Ahinsa jain: Hi, AI-generated images are usually useless. And you need to provide sources for such images. You can request undeletion on COM:UDR, but I doubt they will be undeleted. Regards, Yann (talk) 18:29, 17 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Traductions / COM:THIRD

Pour les traductions propres, on pourrai envisager des pages dupliquées comme Commons:Uploading works by a third party/french et Commons:Uploading works by a third party/german for the typing work, non? Salut, Grand-Duc (talk) 22:14, 18 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Grand-Duc: En general, on créée des redirections Commons:Uploading works by a third party/de et Commons:Uploading works by a third party/fr vers le texte traduit. Vu que la traduction est sur le même projet que l'original, il n'y a pas de problème de licence. Yann (talk) 22:30, 18 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Grand-Duc: I found how to mark the page for translation, and started the French translation. So you can do the German one. ;o) Yann (talk) 20:24, 20 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

"Why are you ignoring Japanese copyright law? Does the Commons policy take precedence over the law? His explanation about the category is completely inaccurate—what does 'as above' even mean in this context? Please explain everything in detail. I always try to make reasonable arguments, but I simply cannot accept this decision." Y.haruo (talk) 11:13, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Y.haruo: Hi, Sorry, but Jim is right. The argument that the board is de minimis doesn't hold water. It is the central part of the image, and the main reason for it. Yann (talk) 11:19, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
The board happened to be in the center—it was just incidental. Please do not disregard Japanese copyright law. Y.haruo (talk) 11:26, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Please take a look at this image File:Louvre at night centered.jpg. On Wikimedia Commons, the central pyramid is explained as being de minimis. Commons de minimis policy does not consider central placement alone as a reason for deletion. Please explain why the file was deleted based on a reason that is not supported by policy.
I would also appreciate an explanation as to why the revised Japanese copyright law is not being respected. As far as I understand, Commons policy does not permit ignoring national laws. Is there a reason why the laws of countries like Japan are being disregarded? Your decision seems inconsistent with Commons guidelines.
Your explanation is entirely insufficient to justify your decision. Since you have made such a significant judgment, you have a responsibility to provide a proper and thorough explanation. Please be aware that refusing to engage in dialogue can be grounds for a block or even removal. Thank you for your attention. Y.haruo (talk) 13:57, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Y.haruo: I don't know the details of Japanese law, but this would not be OK anywhere in the world. The Louvre picture is different: it is not possible to take a picture of the Louvre without having the pyramid in the middle. While it is certainly possible to take a picture of this building without this board. Yann (talk) 20:12, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have researched Japanese law and presented my findings. I have confirmed that the photo in question is lawful under Japanese law. However, you dismissed it without even reading my explanation and arbitrarily concluded—based on speculation—that it is unacceptable. Furthermore, your justification for deletion claims that the signboard is the main subject simply because it is a central element, but such a criterion does not exist in the de minimis policy. In order to photograph that part of the gymnasium, the signboard inevitably appears in the frame. Your response remains unreasonable. I cannot accept the way you have handled this matter. Y.haruo (talk) 00:10, 26 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Y.haruo: Well, if another admin agrees with you, fine. But I don't. Yann (talk) 09:43, 26 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have submitted this issue to the Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems for further review. Y.haruo (talk) 04:05, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Is it possible that the SPA that is nominating the over 100 Polish images is part of a concerted effort to delete Polish history? It seems odd that a new account would dive right into deletions, and nominate so many under similar rationales. The only other activity by the account is to try and get the uploaders banned. I looked to see if there was some previous bad blood between the uploaders and the SPA, but could not find one. The only thing in common in the deletion nominations is that the images are mostly dissidents to the Soviet occupation. RAN (talk) 01:36, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

@RAN: This account is already blocked for 2 weeks. It will be blocked again if the behavior continues after the block. Yann (talk) 09:57, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • They have two accounts, the other is User:Uniminomum (versus User:Uniminomumm), you warned them already for abuse of the speedy deletion system at that account. --RAN (talk) 20:19, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • If ok with you, I am going to make a list of images already deleted, and add to deletion review. I do not have access to deleted images, so I cannot review them myself. Some might be post the 1994 publication cutoff, we won't know until they are reviewed. It looks like a dozen of so were deleted without debate, or with minimal debate. --RAN (talk) 21:46, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hey @Yann, on my talk page you left a Copyright violations. I'm new to Wiki commons and I don't really know what went wrong? So to give some context: I uploaded a bulk amount of photo's. I made sure to place the cc's and the tags for all the photos and then proceeded to mail a declaration of consent to wiki commons email. After all of that, I had a mail conversation with an editor about some of the authorships of the photo's and I didn't hear back on what the final decision. Now most of the photos have been taken down and I have plenty of yellow and red templates on my talk page. I don't really know what I did wrong, so if you could clarify I would really appreciate that. kind regards Kev-spa (talk) 11:24, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Kev-spa: Hi, If you did obtain a permission for a free license from the copyright holder, please add a template {{subst:PP}} in the permission field of your files. Then you have one month for the copyright holder to send the permission. Anyway, files are never permanently deleted on Commons. They will be undeleted if and when a permission is validated by one of the volunteer from VRT. It can take some time. If you have further questions about VRT, you can ask them on COM:VRT/N. Regards, Yann (talk) 11:38, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Copyright?

Hey man, I have cited the Author of the Image, written down its source, check weather they. Have released an image for free use (only for use in non-derogatory ways acc to source) check if it falls within Wikimedia commons policies and then only uploaded it. I don't see why it is still to be rejected.

Can you tell me what I am doing wrong? I also upload from ISRO's webpage and there about half are passed over and the other half (despite being from same page and same author under same license) get deleted.

Is it the way I upload or am I making large amounts of major formatting mistakes? Images I clicked myself have not received any notices like that.

Anticipating your earliest response.

Yours sincerely 4-RAZOR 01 (talk) 04:28, 1 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

@4-RAZOR 01: File:Slns sagara.jpg is from the Sri Lankan Navy, not the Indian Navy. So the license is wrong. Images from the Indian Navy may be OK, but you have to add a license. Please see COM:India. Yann (talk) 09:49, 1 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

About Commons:Deletion requests/File:Legitymacja PZPR 1JG.jpg

Hi Yann, regarding Commons:Deletion requests/File:Legitymacja PZPR 1JG.jpg I wanted to point out that there were two more images tied to that deletion request that still have their tags:

I wasn't sure what the policy is on removal of these tags by a non-admin so I figured I'd inform you of this instead. I'm curious to know if it would've been okay for me to remove the templates given the scenario or not. Or if there are policy pages that explain the process in detail. Thanks, --Stux (talk) 13:23, 1 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

As seen at https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:ListFiles/Yessyesss&ilshowall=1, Yessyesss continues to upload content which does not appear to be free use. You previously warned the user to stop uploading content they were not allowed to, yet they appear to continue to do so. Two of the files are up for deletion discussion at the moment, and have not received a final verdict, but if they are deleted (as I suspect they will be), then it may be time to bring this up somewhere. User:JaxsonR

I nominated a file (File:2026 Austin bar shooter.png) uploaded by them for deletion, and checked their talk page to make sure that the notice posted, and saw that you had previously warned them as well. The user appears to believe that asking Twitter users (who clearly don't have rights to an image) for permission acts as making it okay to upload it here.
